Every now and again I see something that I think is absolutely brilliant.  This video is an example of that. Its by Desiring God to help promote John Pipers book ‘don’t waste your life‘.

Comment if you have any other ripper vids like this one…

Where is my 3.0?

The people are not happy

The people are not happy

Tonight it has been my pleasure to browse forums of angry nerds waiting for the highly anticipated OS upgrade of Apple’s mobile, the iPhone. Many months ago at Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) it was announced that later in 2009 OS 3.0 would be released. More recently it was announced that the official launch date was going to be June 17 for the US and June 18 for Australia.

Well its been the 17th in America for a few hours now, and 3.0 has not arrived yet… Needless to say the people are not impressed… Highlights below (remember that this is just a bit of software to run on a mobile phone).

complete utter crap. . . I am irate (Ragin Demon)

apple, way to disappoint (KMay B)

This is bull s%*t. Apple needs to post it already. (Gentry)

12:15am in cali.. still nothing :/ I WANT IT NOW! (Stef)

come on Apple get it together (Duke916)

Ragin Demon is irate Apple, take Duke916’s advice and get it together…

Tonight got me thinking, this is what a large proportion of the world is spending their energy waiting and getting ready for (some have been up all night waiting, hoping, praying?). Quick Poll, what are the other things that you have had this reaction too?

dealbreakers

What are your dealbreakers?

What are your dealbreakers?

To kick off the posting, I’m coordinating a 6 week evangelistic series starting in September titled ‘dealbreakers’. Many thoughts have entered my head regarding this question.

How do we create a culture of excitement at our evening congregation to accompany our dealbreakers sermon series, that will lead to many not-yet-Christians coming to all 6 nights, which will result in them hearing about their sinfulness, their need for salvation and which will cause them to come to know the real and living God, which will result in their eternal salvation?

Basically the series will feature 6 defeater beliefs chosen by you!

I came up with 6 possible answers:

  • Ask people what their objections are, using our new website [got the idea from here]
  • Vox-pop interviewing people on the street about their dealbreakers to christianity, then invite them to the first week too see their video. [Got the idea from this sermon, might not go to hemp fest though]
  • Higher than normal music quality during the series.
  • Advertise the series more widely by giving out postcards at the local shopping centers.
  • Think up some kind of campaign to the effect of ‘stick with us for 6 weeks’ to hear what we have to say. I don’t want to do a direct copy, but I got the idea from here.
  • Create a comfortable atmosphere after each night to encourage further conversation and discussion.

Please comment on anything you think I have missed, obviously Jesus will be preached. Im thinking more practically, do we need to bother with all of this stuff? Or in the mindset of young people today is stuff like this essential.

Also, if you would like. Send through your [dealbreaker] defeater belief. Ill add it to the poll.

Back to the [past] future

Wastebasket

Trash can will not be required

About a year ago I gave up on blogging. Honestly I ran out of things to say. But due to the changing nature of the work I do at Christ Church Anglican Church, I have decided to give blogging a[nother] go. You probably wont find anything special here, just little things that I happen to pick up while on my many adventures.

I am passionate about finding new and innovative ways to reach the unreached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Web, Facebook, Twitter, iPhone, Mobile broadband, Video, Audio, iTunes, Podcasts. How can we utilize these things to present Jesus to as many people as possible? These are some questions that I wrestle with daily. I hope to share through this blog some of my thought processes and conclusions.
